Sharing is Caring
Thanksgiving is just a day away. As you prepare for the big day you might be wondering what can you share with your furry best friend. At Little Paws Academy we understand how tempting it is to share with our cute and cuddly family members so we took the time to take the guesswork out of it.
Keep your pup safe by avoiding these common Thanksgiving foods at holiday tables everywhere.
Turkey bones
Foods high in fat such as Turkey Skin, Ham, and Gravy
Grapes
Raisins
Apple Seeds
Onions
Scallions
Garlic
Chocolate
Xylitol
Alcoholic beverages
Foods containing spices
Now that you know what to avoid, let’s cover what foods we can share. Many holiday foods can actually be quite healthy for your furry family member. We want to keep these foods plain, so be sure to save a bit for your pup before adding other ingredients such as butter, cream, salt, other seasonings, and sugar, or make a special batch just for her. Adding these other ingredients will increase the fat content which can cause pancreatitis or other digestive issues for your dog making these foods unsafe. Here are some approved plain holiday foods.
Sweet Potatoes - plain, mashed.
Potatoes - plain, boiled or baked.
Apples - sliced and coreless, apple seeds can be toxic.
Turkey meat - prepared without any seasoning.
Green beans - plain.
Peas - plain.
Pumpkin - plain, if canned make sure it is pure pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie mix.
Now that you know go enjoy your Thanksgiving. Have a happy and safe one!
