New Year, New You, New Pup!

The New Year is here and many people have begun their New Year’s Resolutions in hopes of making 2024 a year better than last, but what about your pup? What can you do to help make his year better than the last? Here are three tips to help you build a strong relationship and have your best year with your furry family member yet.

  1. Learn Your Dog’s Body Language - Learning you dog’s individual body language allows you to understand her feelings. This allows you to respect her wishes, set her up for success, and gives her the confidence to trust that you will make the best choices for her even when she is in uncomfortable situations. Our favorite body language book is ‘Doggie Language: A Dog Lover’s Guide to Understanding Your Best Friend’ by Lili Chin.

  2. Commit to Providing 3 Activities a Day - Spending quality time with your pup is an easy way to strengthen your relationship. You could go for a walk, teach new behaviors, play games, or even spend some time cuddling. Having 1 on 1 time with your pup will give him the proper outlet he needs, reducing boredom and building a solid bond. Our favorite way to spend quality time with our pups is by playing training games and earning Trick Titles. Want to join in the fun? Contact us today and ask about our Tricks & Games Programs!

  3. Be Proactive - Teaching your pup to be the best they can be this year is easy when you set them up to be successful. If last year your dog was doing undesirable behaviors, spend time thinking about how you can best help her be successful by adjusting the environment so that it is nearly impossible to make those choices. Your dog doesn’t want to hang out with someone that is always saying “No!” and telling her she is doing it wrong, as I am sure you would rather not have to continue to say “No!” either. So set her up to get it right and make both of your lives more enjoyable. Need help? Contact us for your free discovery session today!

Learning your dog’s body language, committing to providing 3 activities a day, and being proactive are just the beginning to having a strong relationship with your pup. So start creating your best year yet and see how much your relationship improves in 2024!
